Cannabis Impact On Sperm

The incidence of young men smoking marijuana has increased over time.  As of 2020, over a third of men aged 18-25 and 16% of men 26 or older reported cannabis use, which of course strongly correlates with reproductive aged men.  The studies on cannabis effect suggest an adverse impact on sperm parameters such as count and motility and reduced fertilization capacity of sperm cells.  Dr. Parviz Kavoussi was tasked to be a reviewer on the clinician brief of the impact of cannabis use on male fertility. A systemic testing of evidence on marijuana was performed on this topic. Dr. Kavoussi states, “It was a pleasure to review this document prior to its publication for its scientific merit. The recommendation considering the suggested impact of cannabis on sperm would be for men to discontinue use while trying to conceive.”
