Dr. Parviz Kavoussi publishes a study looking at the importance of changes in microRNA in erectile dysfunction due to blood flow issues related to poor diet.

Dr. Parviz Kavoussi was involved with research to look at possible biologic changes in penis in men with erectile dysfunction (ED) and the findings were recently published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

MicroRNAs are molecules that regulate gene expression and play roles in blood vessel injuries and changes. This study used an animal model to show that those with ED induced by blood flow issues secondary to a poor diet revealed changes in expression of specific microRNAs. Dr. Kavoussi comments, “this was really exciting ground breaking work to help us in our understanding of biological changes that are occurring in the tissues of men with ED. Of course, these studies are ultimately being done to translate to help us better counsel and treat our patients to optimize their sexual and fertility health”. For more details, read the study.
