AFRM partners with the Livestrong Foundation to be a resource for fertility preservation services for women with cancer prior to treatment for cancer

The Livestrong Foundation provides the full range of resources for women and men who unfortunately have been diagnosed with cancer. AFRM has partnered with the Livestrong Foundation to be a resource for fertility preservation for women and men who unfortunately have cancer.  “Fertility preservation is performed prior to cancer therapies that are necessary to treat cancer patients but are also toxic to oocytes (eggs).  Our in vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratory, Westlake IVF, offers oocyte and embryo cryopreservation for women who are faced with cancer and upcoming chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy,” says Dr. Shahryar Kavoussi.  “We are cognizant of the time-sensitive nature of cancer therapies and the need to expedite fertility preservation prior to such therapies.  We have partnered with the Livestrong Foundation to be a resource for fertility preservation.”  Dr. Shahryar Kavoussi wrote the “Gamete Preservation” chapter in the Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility Handbook for Clinicians.
