This is an amazing story of a man who jokingly takes a pregnancy test that his ex-girlfriend left behind. It gives a positive reading and he posts this online when he gets some feedback telling him to see a doctor as this could have worrisome implications. He is ultimately diagnosed with testicular cancer. The hormone HCG is best known for being produced by the developing placenta during pregnancy, however, there are certain cell types in particular testicular cancers that produce HCG. This is an incredible story of a cancer diagnosis being made in this manner, but this is certainly the exception. There are a lot of types of testicular cancers that do not produce HCG, so pregnancy tests should not be considered as a standard screening tool. The recommendation is still that men should perform self-exams in a warm shower monthly and notify their doctor should they feel any changes.
