Austin Fertility is excited to announce our newest physician to our clinic, Dr. Luke Machen, a reproductive urologist, who will be serving male patients in Round Rock, our newest location. Now patients in Round Rock and the greater North Austin area can enjoy a shorter drive to see us.
We’re fortunate to have Dr. Machen join our team. By joining forces with Dr. Parviz Kavoussi, Austin Fertility now has the only two fellowship-trained specialists in Reproductive Urology and Vasectomy Reversal in the Austin and Round Rock areas. To learn more about Dr. Machen read his bio and CV.
We had the opportunity ask him some questions. Here’s what he has to say:
What inspired you to become a physician?
When in high school, my grandfather had a life-threatening medical emergency in the stands of one of my football games. Several physicians responded to the PA announcement calling for help, including the surgeon who would operate on him later that night. I was struck by how knowledgeable and focused the surgeon seemed, and his compassion for my family during this very challenging time stuck with me to this day.
Why did you decide to specialize in reproductive urology and andrology?
Reproductive urology seemed like a unique way to help people, and there is nothing quite as rewarding as helping struggling couples to have children. I also loved the operations – particularly those involving the operative microscope. It seemed very gratifying to me to become an expert at such meticulous surgeries.
Why did you decide to move to Austin to join the AFRM team?
I had the chance to get to know Dr. Parviz Kavoussi and Dr. Shahryar Kavoussi as a resident in Temple, TX. They seemed like physicians who valued doing the right things for the right reasons, which was important to me. I also think the practice set up is unique. Frequently, fertility problems involve contributions from both partners. Having male and female fertility specialists sharing work space and communicating allows us to deliver the best possible care to couples.
What are the fun and leisure activities you hope to do in Austin?
My wife and I are looking forward to eating our way through Austin. We’re excited about the music scene here and are hoping to make it to a few concerts. We’ve also enjoyed taking our basset hound Heidi for walks around our neighborhood.
