Does VAricocele Repair Improve Semen Parameters

Dr. Parviz Kavoussi co-authors meta-analysis on semen analysis improvement after varicocele repair.

Varicoceles are abnormally dilated veins around the testicle and are found in 15% of men in the general population, in 40% of men presenting with male infertility, and 80% of men who did not have trouble achieving a pregnancy with their partner in the past but have difficulty doing so now. That makes varicoceles the most commonly correctable form of male infertility. Varicoceles are repaired, when necessary, through a minimally invasive surgical procedure which Dr. Parviz Kavoussi performs week in week out. The benefits of repair include improving semen analysis parameters such as sperm count and motility, as well as sperm health via improving sperm DNA integrity. Dr. Kavoussi recently co-authored a meta-analysis reviewing the data available in the medical literature demonstrating the positive impact of varicocele repair on semen analysis parameters. Dr. Kavoussi states, “Even after all of these years of repairing varicoceles, it still amazes me what a profound impact it can have on a man’s semen analysis parameters and fertility outcomes.”
