Dr. Parviz Kavoussi publishes editorial on the importance of sperm DNA fragmentation for natural and assisted reproductive outcomes

The one functional test on sperm that has come to the forefront of the science and gained support for use in clinical practice is the sperm DNA fragmentation assay.  This is commonly performed to assess selected infertile men at Westlake IVFs andrology laboratory.  Dr. Parviz Kavoussi is a well-established author of scientific medical literature on the importance of sperm DNA fragmentation for infertile men.  Therefore, he was asked to write an editorial on a recent publication reviewing the medical literature with more confirmatory data demonstrating the importance of sperm DNA fragmentation for natural and assisted reproductive outcomes for selected patients.  Dr. Kavoussi states, “DNA fragmentation is still not a test that is considered appropriate to perform on every infertile man, but is appropriate to perform in men who are evaluated by a reproductive urologist and meet the criteria for testing. In such cases, an elevation of sperm DNA fragmentation may be important for treatment options and outcomes for the couple.”
