Dr. Parviz Kavoussi writes commentary on varicocele repair outcome study in infertile men

Varicoceles, abnormally dilated veins around the testicle, are the most common correctable diagnosis in infertile men. There have been a large number of studies revealing the adverse impact on a man’s fertility and the potential improvements with a microsurgical repair of the varicocele.  As Dr. Parviz Kavoussi performs multiple varicocele repairs week in, week out, and is considered one of the leading experts in this operation, he was asked to provide a commentary in UroToday on a recent publication regarding varicoceles.  This was meta-analysis systemic review revealing the improvement in semen parameters following varicocele repair. Dr. Kavoussi comments, “This is a very well-done methodological study as it compares previous studies assessing the change in semen parameters in men who underwent varicocele repair versus those who remained untreated”.  This study showed a significant improvement in semen parameters in men who underwent varicocele repair versus their untreated counterparts.
